Competition Guidelines and Regulations:
Open to all students grades K-12.

Requirements:
Requirements: Requirements: Composers must read and abide by Competition Guidelines & Regulations. Compose a piece of choice in one or more categories defined below within their division. Placed and Honorable Mention composers in each category A, B and J are responsible for the rehearsal and performance of their music at the annual concert on Friday, June 4th, 2010. (Not applicable to orchestral and choral pieces.)

Entry Regulations:
- TWO copies of an original score must be sent with the entry form; “charts”
   will not be accepted. - CD or other recordings will not be accepted.
- Measures MUST be numbered on each score submitted.
- All compositions should be bound, and double-sided.
- Do NOT put composer’s name, or dedication on any page of the score.
- Composer and parent/or guardian MUST sign the entry form.
- Composers may enter a piece in their age division from any or all of the
   categories below.
- A separate entry form and fee for each composition is required.
- A signed copy of the PPYC Permission Request must be sent with each entry.
- Composition(s), completed entry form(s) and correct fees
– payable to PPYC – must arrive or be postmarked by April 1st 2010,

Division, Category and Entry fee schedule:

Division 1 – ages 16 through 18 (as of April 1, 2010)

    Category A: Solo composition (including song with accompaniment;
    orchestral instrument with accompaniment, e.g. violin sonata).
    Fee: $35.00
    Category B: Chamber piece for duo, trio, quartet, quintet, etc.
    Fee: $40.00
    Category C: Orchestral/Concerto. Fee: $40.00
    Category D: Choral. Fee $40.00
    Category E: Band. Fee $40.00
    Category F: Opera. Fee $45.00
    Category J:  Any work for Jazz solo, or ensemble. Fee: $35.00  
Division 2 – ages 13 through 15 (as of April 1, 2010)
    Category A: Solo composition (including song with accompaniment;
    orchestral instrument with accompaniment, e.g. violin sonata).
    Fee: $30.00
    Category B: Chamber piece for duo, trio, quartet, quintet, etc.
    Fee: $35.00
    Category C: Orchestral/Concerto. Fee: $40.00
    Category D: Choral. Fee $40.00
    Category E: Band. Fee $40.00
    Category F: Opera. Fee $45.00

 Division 3 – ages 10 through 12 (as of April 1, 2010)

    Category C: Orchestral/Concerto. Fee: $35.00

    Category J:  Any work for Jazz solo, or ensemble. Fee: $25.00
Division 4 – ages 6 through 9 (as of April 1, 2010)
    Category A: Solo composition (including song with accompaniment;
    orchestral instrument with accompaniment, e.g. violin sonata).
    Fee: $20.00
    Category B: Chamber piece for duo, trio, quartet, quintet, etc.
    Fee: $35.00

    Style and Form: (40)
        1) Title - originality and/or suitability
        2) Organization of piece
        3) Repetition and contrast
        4) Balance, dynamics, articulation
        5) Appropriate use of instrument(s)
    Melodic and Harmonic Technique: (40)
       
1) Texture
        2) Voice leading
        3) Modulation and Development
        4) Appropriate cadences

    Presentation: (20)
       
1) Correct musical notation
        2) Overall appearance

Judging: 

All entrants will receive a written critique from the judging panel; and a certificate. The decision of the judging panel is final.

Awards:
First, Second, Third place and Honorable Mention.

The annual concert of successful compositions selected from the competition will be held:
 Friday, June 4th 2010 at 7:30 pm
