The
Pikes Peak Young Composers Competition consists of four age divisions:
Division
1 - ages 16 through 18
Division 2 - ages 13 through 15
Division 3 - ages 10 through 12
Division 4 - ages 5 through 9.
Each
composer may choose to enter compositions in any or all of the following
categories:
Category
A - solo composition
Category B - chamber piece for duo, trio, etc. (other than string
quartet)
Category C - orchestral; band and choral
Category D - string quartet
Category E - a piece for jazz solo or ensemble
Each
participant must follow rules and regulations detailed on the entry
form. Judging is based upon an established criteria that each judge
follows. The entries are coded by administrative personnel so the
judges never know the identity of the composers. When each judge
has completed their assigned compositions then all judges meet as
a jury to review and evaluate the entries.
The winning and
honorable mention composers are invited to perform at our annual concert, held in Colorado Springs, CO.
All entries receive a comprehensive evaluation and certificate.
