Eligibility: Open to all students grades
K-12.
Requirements: Composers must read and abide by
Competition Guidelines & Regulations.
Compose a solo, song, string quartet,
concerto, or any medium of choice in one or more categories within their
division.
Placed and Honorable
Mention composers in their division are responsible for the rehearsal and
performances of their music at the annual concert in May. (Not applicable to orchestral
and choral pieces.) Composers outside the state of
Entry
Regulations:
TWO copies
of an original score must be sent with the entry form; “charts” will not be
accepted.
CD
recordings will not be accepted.
Measures MUST
be numbered on each score submitted.
All
compositions should be bound, and double-sided.
Do NOT
put composer’s name, or dedication on any page of the
score.
Composer
and parent/or guardian MUST sign the entry form.
Composers may enter a piece from
any or all of the FIVE categories below, in their age division.
A separate
entry form and fee for each composition is required.

piece for duo, trio, quintet, etc. (not string quartet). Fee: $35.00
Category C: Orchestral/Band/Choral.

Category D: String

Points
(100): 30 points –
originality, structure and musical creativity
30 points
– compositional technique; use of instrument(s).
30 points – melodic,
rhythmic and harmonic consideration.

points – overall presentation (to include correct musical notation).
Judging: All entrants will receive a written
critique from the judging panel. The
decision of the judging panel is final.
First
Place,
as well as
Honorable Mention awards.
The first place
winner in each category and division will receive a copy of NOTION™ 1.5
software.
The annual concert of successful compositions
selected from the competition will be held at
Colorado
College, Packard Hall, 14 East Cache La Poudre St., Colorado Springs, CO 80903
